K.I. SAWYER, Mich. (WZMQ) – Today the airport cut the ribbon on their new sterile waiting area on Tuesday. It includes 66 new seats for waiting passengers and tables for them to use prior to flights.
Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport Director Duane Duray said the new area is important to accommodate increasing numbers of people flying with them.
“Airlines have transitioned to the 50 seats to the larger seat aircraft and we had a lot of congestion because we have overlapping flights,” said Duray. “Knowing that the airlines have expanded their flights, expanded their seat capacity we needed to pivot and make a space that was amenable to the volume of passengers.”
The new space includes a merchandise store so passengers don’t have to worry about getting new purchases through security.
