MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Michigan State Police (MSP) trooper from the Negaunee Post has received the 2024 Officer of the Year Award from the Marquette County Law Enforcement Administrator’s Association (MCLEAA).
Trooper Mack Schlicht enlisted with the Michigan State Police in July of 2004 as a member of the 120th Trooper Recruit School before being assigned to the Negaunee Post. While at the Negaunee Post, Schlicht has served as an evidence technician, first aid instructor, and tobacco tax team member along with his various other duties and assignments. He has attended multiple specialized trainings and has been the recipient of various awards and unit citations for consistent and excellent work in the field.
In 2015, Schlicht was selected for and attended the 50th Canine Handler Basic School. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Hometown Security Team (HST) in Sault Ste. Marie. In 2017, Schlicht transferred to HST out of Eighth District Headquarters.
In 2019, he transferred back to the Negaunee Post, where he continues to serve as a canine handler. As the only canine handler at the post, he has proven to be reliable in answering calls at any time of day or night.
A press release from the State Police says Trooper Schlicht is “very proactive in traffic enforcement and criminal interdiction.” It says he has also excelled in conducting thorough criminal investigations. Schlicht is described as an asset to Marquette County law enforcement agencies, as well as an example of what a dedicated law enforcement officer should represent.
