NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, Governor Whitmer made appointments to multiple boards and commissions across the state of Michigan.
Marius Grazulis, a Negaunee high school teacher, is one of six appointees for the Michigan Iron Industry Museum Advisory Board. This board oversees the museum’s initiatives and policies, while supporting its education programs and the public uses of the facility.
“It’s a responsibility of representing the people in the U.P.” said Grazulis. “I need to be a responsible person for that position and do my due diligence.”
Grazulis has been teaching government and history for 30 years, retiring from his position after this school year. After working in education, he hopes the board position will continue his style of leadership through its volunteerism.
“I’m practicing what I preach in class,” said Grazulis. “I’m a government teacher and I tell my students that our system works on volunteerism, and I’m so happy that I got this call for this job so I can volunteer for it.”
His position will be focused on representing the general public, and says that he will do what he can to accommodate for those requests and needs.
“If people ask me to do stuff for the Iron Industry Museum and come up with brand new ideas, I’ll certainly give my best,” said Grazulis.
Other officials appointed to the board are Karen Kasper of Ishpeming, Harold Fitch of Williamston, Robert Mercure of Marquette, James Paquette of Negaunee, and Daniel Fountain of Negaunee. Their terms on the board will go through October of 2028.
