MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Northern Michigan University is again hosting the united conference. In its 18th year, the conference is a celebration of inclusion and diversity. 2025 United includes workshops and presentations on Native American culture and customs, displays of native dance, keynote speeches by world-renowned educators and authors, and even an exhibition of ancient native American lacrosse. The theme of this year’s conference is how we learn, lead, and advance equity for all. The conference will continue all day tomorrow at the northern center. Admission is free. Assistant Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, Dr. Shawnrece Butler says there is something for everyone.
“There’s something that represents just about any group you can think of, almost any interest, sharing that information with each other, helping to understand each other’s roots and cultures, deepening your own self and your own roots and cultures,” said Butler.
Tuesday’s highlight will be a keynote luncheon hosted by Dr. Shannon Epplet.
