ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – More than 150 farmers and homesteaders gathered in Escanaba on Tuesday for the Agriculture for Tomorrow Conference at Bay College.

Hosted by the Michigan State University (MSU) Extension, the annual event is about taking a futuristic approach to agriculture. Industry professionals led sessions on crop and livestock production, homesteading, and specialty crops.

According to MSU Extension Educator Frank Wardynski, the conference highlights the latest agricultural research and new ideas that can help both individuals and farms, no matter their size or what they produce.

“Agriculture has a very bright future,” Wardynski said. “Of all the things when you look at our economy, whether you think it’s doing well or you’re scared of what’s going to happen in the future, we’re going to produce food for people to eat. We’re always going to have that opportunity and, hopefully, we can do it profitably.”

Conference attendees also enjoyed a lunch featuring agricultural products grown in the Upper Peninsula.
