ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Heavy blizzard conditions started on Tuesday night, without stopping throughout Wednesday. Bringing about an inch of snow per hour, roads in Marquette County were very dangerous to travel along. Schools across the county had snow days, and Ash Wednesday services at local churches were canceled. Many people were snowed in, making for empty roads, which the Marquette County Road Commission was grateful for.
“I noticed today the traffic was down, which helps us a lot,” said Ross Olsen, the director of operations and maintenance at the Marquette County Road Commission. “If people can stay home that’s great, it gives us room to do our jobs.”
The Marquette County Road Commission and their plow crews are working day and night to keep roads and highways safely plowed. They maintain over 1000 miles of roads, roughly taking 24 hours for all crews to plow the primary and local roads throughout the county.
