SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Last March, an African spurred tortoise escaped from his Schoolcraft County home. Nearly one year later, he is set to star in his second book.
Yoda the tortoise developed a large fanbase following his escape and daring journey back home in the Upper Peninsula winter. In 2024, he hosted several meet-and-greets and met community members at events like the U.P. State Fair.
Yoda’s owner, Sarahjean Adolphus, published a book about Yoda’s journey last summer. A sequel titled Yoda’s Yooper Adventure: Summer Fun will be released on March 11.
“He had so many adventures from one town to another,” Adolphus said. “You get to hear about all the people he’s met, and that might be you!”
Half of the book details his travels and new friends, while the other half is a coloring book. Adolphus says it’s a tribute to the community that helped Yoda find his way home and has kept his family feeling loved ever since.
“Still to this day, I’m getting stopped everywhere left and right, ‘How is Yoda? How is Yoda? How’s he doing?'” said Adolphus. “He’s doing great! I just want people to see how well he’s done since one year ago. They’ve just helped even keep me in a better spirit, knowing that this just could’ve went really bad and it didn’t.”
