Trump to Address Congress, Slotkin to Give Democratic Response

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In just a few hours, President Trump will address congress. We can expect him to tout what he’s done so far and share what he plans to do in his second term. Trump’s address comes at a time his administration has been going full throttle by issuing executive orders and trying to reduce the government.

His executive orders focus on a range of issues: from changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, trying to issue a funding freeze and letting Elon Musk’s DOGE team to slash as much government spending as possible. The new administration has also tried to enact mass firings of federal employees.

On the international aspect, allies and foes are now trying to adjust to Trump’s trade war with Canada, Mexico and China. We’re told the President will also address the war in Ukraine following the fiery meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House last Friday.

Michigan freshman Senator Elissa Slotkin (D- MI) will deliver the democratic response following Trump’s address. Political scientists said this is their party’s chance to push back against the administration. It’s also a huge opportunity for Slotkin to gain more national attention.

“This is an opportunity to put the spotlight on an individual who has a greater ambition later on and this is a chance for her to have that moment in the spotlight,” said Dr. Todd Belt, George Washington University Professor and Director of Political Management. “It’s also a chance for her to become a spokesperson for the party to explain exactly what they’re doing given the fact that they don’t have many levers of power right now.”

The President is expected to give that address in just a few hours. We will be covering this address live from the US Capitol and give you the highlights at 11pm.
