GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter has launched their nominations for the 2025 UPAWS awards. The shelter is happy to recognize members of the community for their incredible contributions to animal welfare.
There are four awards being granted, two for humans and two for animals. For the humans, the Assisi Award will be given to a person with a longstanding commitment to animal welfare, and the Gold Heart Award will be given to a person who performed an extraordinary act of compassion towards an animal in the last year. The animal awards are the Silver Tag Award for an animal that has performed long-term service, and the Purple Paw Award for an animal that has performed an act of courage, loyalty, or devotion in the last year.
“This is a great way for us to recognize all the amazing volunteers, community members, animal lovers, and animals of this community.” said Nic Conroy, fundraising coordinator for UPAWS. All award winners will be invited to the Cause for Paws Gala on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Holiday Inn Marquette. This fundraising event will recognize the award recipients, as well as celebrate the 50th anniversary of UPAWS.
Nominations for the four awards will be accepted from February 20 until March 21, found on upaws.org.
