MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – February 17th marks Presidents’ Day. Many are using that day as a time for protest, such as some locals in Marquette. On Monday, around 50 protesters stood outside of Marquette’s post office, holding signs and voicing their thoughts on President Trump.
As seen earlier this month, the protests go hand in hand with the 50501 movement, involving 50 states holding 50 protests in one day. Most of these protests are held at each state capitol, while in the Upper Peninsula, many in the Marquette community like to be involved on a local scale. “We want to let people know that there are people out there who care about everybody in this country,” said Patrick Dudley, a protester in Marquette.
These acts of protest are in opposition to President Trumps continuous major executive orders. More recently, many are against Elon Musk, appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He has been making headway in unpopular efforts, such as requesting for taxpayer information from the IRS, as well as making critical federal staffing cuts.
The 50501 movement plans to continue its retaliation with more protests in the future.
