GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – On March 11 the Marquette County Conservation District (MCCD) is holding a “Firewise and Forest Health” workshop at the Up North Lodge in Gwinn. The workshop will include talks from DNR members on how to keep the forests safe from fires and invasive pests.
MCCD Forester Sara Kelso said the community plays a key role in protecting our forests, “We want to keep forests as healthy as we can,” said Kelso. “They’re really important to the UP, to the tourism industry, to the folks who live here. for the timber economy, so we want to make sure that invasive pests and insects we’re seeing, and diseases, that we find out about those as soon as possible. And we really rely on folks to know what to look for and we hope we can teach them that.”
The workshop is from 6-7:30 p.m. and is free for anyone to attend.
