MANISTIQUE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Manistique Public Safety Department is investigating the cause of a fire that resulted in the total loss of a residence.
Around 9:24 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, Public Safety officials were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 914 N River Road in Manistique Township. The occupant who called said the residence was on fire and that everyone inside had gotten out.
Public Safety and the Manistiquee Volunteer Fire Department arrived at approximately 9:39 p.m. The entire structure was fully engulfed. The first units at the scene confirmed that all four adult occupants were able to exit the burning structure safely.
Firefighters got the blaze under control after roughly 40 minutes. They stayed at the scene until approximately 12:19 a.m. due to hot spots created by the collapse of the roof.
No occupants, firefighters, or support personnel were injured. The residence is considered a total loss, along with most of the occupants’ personal belongings.
Manistique Public Safety and the Volunteer Fire Department were assisted on scene by Manistique EMS, the Hiawatha Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Thompson Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Doyle Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Sault Tribe Police Department, Michigan State Police, Cloverland Electric, and SEMCO Energy.
