WASHINGTON, D.C. – Michigan’s Senator Elissa Slotkin (D- MI) told WZMQ 19 News following President Donald Trump’s inaugural address, there are some areas she believes she can work with the new administration that would benefit Michigan.
Sen. Slotkin said it was her first time to experience an inauguration as Michigan’s newest Senator. She said she understood the gravity of her responsibility representing the state. She was a Congresswoman during Trump’s first Presidency and said she’s learned that the President will say things but she will wait to react until there’s actual action from him. We asked her following Trump’s address, if she believes there are areas she can work with the new administration.
“I do think the areas of overlap,” said Sen. Slotkin. “Where I do see potential promise is he talked about the auto industry and we’re from Michigan so success of the auto industry is deeply connected to the success of our state. So, I want to work with him on that. And then China. As someone who is a national security person by training, I think competition by China is the big national security issue in the next decade, so I’m hoping we can work together on those things.”
