Healthway Nutrition Store helps customers make healthy changes for New Year’s resolutions and beyond

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – With less than two weeks left in January, this is a time when some find it challenging to keep their New Year’s resolutions going strong. One Escanaba business is helping customers find manageable ways to make healthier choices all year long.

At Healthway Nutrition Store, it’s all about healthy alternatives for everyday items.

“For people who want to change their lifestyle—eating habits, whatever they want to change—we have natural cleaning products, body products, supplements, organic food,” said Manager Paula Sturm.

Sturm says the most popular products she sells are foods and ingredients that are safe for those with allergies and dietary restrictions.

“I do a lot of bulk gluten-free stuff—noodles, pastas, crackers, flours,” she said. “A lot of people who have a family member who are gluten-free, they will change their diet to coincide with their family member who has that allergy.”

She says that can prove to be a positive change for the whole family.

“They learn to take a recipe and you can change the ingredients to make a more healthier version,” said Sturm. “It does provide benefits for them because it’s like, ‘Change your ways of doing it with them so they don’t feel left out.'”

Many customers are also looking to switch up the ingredients in their personal care products.

“There’s a lot of chemicals in shampoos and deodorants and toothpastes,” said Sturm. “A lot of people will go with the fluoride-free, the paraben, the sodium lauryl sulfates-free. They want to do more of a natural thing.”

For a quick fix when feeling under the weather, many people head to the drugstore. However, Healthway Nutrition Store stocks a wide selection of natural options that Sturm says can do the job.

“Instead of cough syrups and remedies over the counter, we offer bulk teas and box teas for your natural cold and flu remedy,” she said. “My top thing right now is calming anxiety, stress, with everything that’s going on in this world today. We do a lot of supplements and drinks that have added, like, ashwagandha to it. Ashwagandha is one of my top-selling calming remedies out there.”

Sturm says making small changes, like switching to a new brand of toothpaste or opting for more natural recipes, is the key to helping those New Year’s resolutions stick around long after January ends.

“I encourage people to start out slow,” said Sturm. “A lot of people will come in here with a big, long list of New Year’s resolutions, and doing a complete change around is hard on people. Introducing little by little is what works.”

Healthway Nutrition Store also offers bulk spices, dairy-free ice cream, and other options customers may not find at other retailers.

The store is located at 2307 1st Avenue South and is open Monday through Thursday from 9 – 6, Friday from 9 – 5, and Sunday from 11 – 3. For more information, visit the Healthway Nutrition Store Facebook page or call (906) 786-2320.
