Hunter Sopr leads five in double figures with a career-high 29 points

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men’s basketball team (15-2, 6-1 GLIAC) came away with a dominant 107-73 victory over the Purdue Northwest Pride (3-12, 0-7 GLIAC) behind a career-high 29-point performance from Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) on Thursday.

Soper opened up the scoring before the Pride hit from distance to take a 3-2 advantage, their only lead of the contest. Then, the Lakers would let it fly with several long balls to quickly grow their lead to double digits, including multiple threes from both Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.). The Lakers would then press their attack to end the half with a 10-2 run that was capped off with a half court bomb at the buzzer from Soper to send his team into the break with all of the momentum.

The Pride were able to partially close the gap with some strong three-point shooting, but the Lakers always seemed to have an answer, quickly extending the lead to 35 points with a 15-2 run in which Edmondson was heavily featured. With the game firmly in hand, the Lakers would then empty their bench to close out the emphatic victory.

Soper led the way offensively with a career-high 29 points while shooting 12-13 from the floor. Womack was also able to reach the 20 point mark with Edmondson not far behind with 19. Meanwhile, Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Mich.) also finished in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 18 when they face the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m. Central Time.
