With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, relaxation may seem out of reach, but a new local business in Marquette has just the answer. The world today is full of distractions that are pulling us this way and that, but what if you could unplug and turn down the volume of your busy life? What if you could shut out all the manic energy and noise that surrounds us each day? Say hello to float therapy—an enclosed capsule filled with body-temperature water that allows you to float weightlessly in total darkness. Peter Torelli, Co-owner of Aquapodics float therapy explains the experience. "When you're floating is pretty much like a weight-lifted experience, very calm, very relaxing, as if you're in a dark cave, just floating, just you and yourself," said Torelli.

Float therapy can reduce stress and joint pain

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, relaxation may seem out of reach, but a new local business in Marquette has just the answer.

“When you’re floating is pretty much like a weight-lifted experience, very calm, very relaxing, as if you’re in a dark cave, just floating, just you and yourself,” said Torelli.

The idea for Aquapodics came from a tragic accident. Peter’s partner in the business, Leo was injured in a car accident and used float therapy to hasten his recovery.
“He had a very tragic accident, and float therapy was one of the many ways he used to recover,” reported Torelli.

So, why do you float?

“1000 pounds of magnesium sulfate allows you to create that buoyancy effect. It keeps you up and up to the surface of the water,” explained Torelli..
And what if you are claustrophobic?

“A lot of people who are claustrophobic, who do come in and you do have the ability to open or close the pod to kind of alleviate that feeling,” said Torelli.

Aquapodics occupies a former bank, and the plan is to expand into the vault and have some fun with it

“We’d like to hold a contest and see who can guess the safe, and if the lucky winner does guess the combination, they’ll receive five free floats,” said Torelli.

Aquapodics is located on the lower level of the Peninsula Medical Center. 1414 West Fair Ave. Suite 43, Marquette, MI
