Negaunee High School’s “Frozen Junior” to open this weekend

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – While the snow comes down outside, Negaunee High School is getting ready to being some of that winter magic into their auditorium with “Frozen Junior” the musical.

“We chose Frozen Junior mainly because the students were interested in doing it,” said the show’s Director Kelli Bucholtz. “It’s probably every girls dream to be Elsa and to be a part of this kind of production.”

And the cast could not be more excited.

“Everyone’s excited for the show, I’m excited for the show,” said cast member Caden Cerae who is playing the role of Boulda. “It’s really good, the quick changes are really cool, Elsa looks phenomenal.”

“I’m pretty excited actually, it’s my last show and it’s kinda fun to do a short, easy show, especially with my friends,” said Kaylen Kauppila the show’s Elsa. “Basically all my friends are doing the show with me.”

The long process of preparing for the show actually began all the way back during the end of last school year.

“We did auditions then so that students could have their scripts over the summer,” said Bucholtz. “And then as soon as the school year started this year we hit the ground running and started rehearsals and we’ve been rehearsing since.”

But the cast said it’s been worth it to see everything come together.

“I think we’ve all done a pretty good job of learning our lines and getting it down and getting the set built,” said Cerae. “It’s been a process it’s have its ups and downs”

“I’m excited to put this on, and I’m really happy I’m doing this my senior year,” said Kauppila “I’m just excited.”

The show will be December 6 – 8 with 7 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. shows on Saturday and Sunday at the Negaunee High School auditorium.
