Last year's Lights of Love display

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – An Escanaba healthcare organization is preparing to light up US-2 and Highway 41 with a special holiday tradition.

The OSF. St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary is hosting its annual Lights of Love campaign. For $5, the public can purchase a memorial light on one of the trees in honor of a lost family member, friend, or pet.

The OSF Auxiliary has been in existence since 1955, and the Lights of Love have been glowing each December for years. The funds raised help the hospital purchase updated equipment and improve facilities.

“Coming along that highway and seeing those lit up trees, those soft lights against the snow, I think it’s special because it touches your heart just knowing that you have a light or maybe a few lights that are in remembrance of someone that’s special to you,” said OSF Auxiliary member Sue Scheeneman.

The Lights of Love trees will be lit by the end of this week. The display will stay up through New Year’s Eve.

Lights of Love purchase forms are available at the OSF Hospital front desk, the hospital gift shop, in the Daily Press and Action Newspaper, and online at osfstfrancis.org/lights. Purchasers are asked to note whether their honoree is a person or a pet.

With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, relaxation may seem out of reach, but a new local business in Marquette has just the answer. The world today is full of distractions that are pulling us this way and that, but what if you could unplug and turn down the volume of your busy life? What if you could shut out all the manic energy and noise that surrounds us each day? Say hello to float therapy—an enclosed capsule filled with body-temperature water that allows you to float weightlessly in total darkness. Peter Torelli, Co-owner of Aquapodics float therapy explains the experience. "When you're floating is pretty much like a weight-lifted experience, very calm, very relaxing, as if you're in a dark cave, just floating, just you and yourself," said Torelli.
