ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday, the Delta County Veterans Council observed Veterans Day at the Upper Peninsula Military Museum.
Speakers and attendees honored those at the ceremony who served, as well as service members who were killed or who went missing in action. Speakers emphasized the importance of veterans’ dedication to protecting America’s freedoms, especially in times of political division.
“We walk around trying to convince ourselves and others of our own morality and condemning those who think differently,” said Veterans Council Commander Steven Kwarciany. “Yet, there is a place where those ideals, thoughts, and individualisms are put to the wayside. That place is in the ranks of our men and women serving in the Armed Forces. All the things that divide us in the real world are set aside, and the safety of our nation is put in the forefront above all else.”
The ceremony included a drum circle by the students in the Escanaba Schools Indian Education Program, which highlighted the service of Indigenous military members.
