HOUGHTON COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – After a monthslong investigation, two people in Houghton County are facing drug charges for distributing methamphetamine across the county.
Detectives with the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) were investigating a 40-year-old man from Calumet suspected of distributing meth. On Nov. 2, UPSET detectives coordinated with the Michigan State Police Traffic Safety Team and Sault Tribal Police Department to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect believed to be transporting drugs through Mackinac County. The 40-year-old man from Calumet and a 39-year-old woman from Atlantic Mine were identified in the vehicle. Officers found and seized approximately one pound of crystal meth along with drug paraphernalia and over $2,000 cash.
Both suspects were lodged in the Mackinac County Jail. Their names are currently being withheld.
On Nov. 4, UPSET detectives and MSP troopers from the Calumet Post executed a search warrant at the suspects’ residence. Additional evidence related to the distribution of meth was found, along with firearms and $1,500 cash.
The investigation is ongoing.
UPSET detectives were assisted by Sault Tribal Police, MSP Traffic Safety Team, MSP Calumet Post, and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.
