SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Lower Michigan man is OK after being pinned by 700 pounds of drywall at a construction site in Sault Ste. Marie.
On Thursday, Oct. 31, a 43-year-old man from Levering, in northern Lower Michigan, was working alone at the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post, which has been undergoing construction. The man, who’s name has not been released, was transporting large sheets of drywall when they fell, trapping him underneath. The man called for help, and Trooper Ferraro, who was inside the post at the time, faintly heard him shouting.
Trooper Ferraro ran outside and lifted the drywall enough for the man to get out from underneath. The man did not suffer any major injuries and expressed his gratitude to Trooper Ferraro.
“This incident could have had a much more serious outcome,” said Trooper Ferraro. “I’m just glad I was nearby to help.”
MSP reminds people to prioritize safety when working alone, whether at home or on the job. Before starting any project, plan your tasks carefully and identify potential hazards to ensure you are prepared for any challenges. Additionally, it may be a good idea to notify a friend or family member about your work plans, including the expected duration and location.
