MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Services Agency held its annual fall education conference this week. NMU’s Northern Center played host to hundreds of area educators.
Marquette-Alger RESA has brought in several world-renowned education professionals for the conference, including pioneers of the concept of Visible Learning, which encourages teachers to see the classroom from the student’s point of view. Jennifer Krzewina, Director of Mental Health Services says inclusion is important to learning.
“A big part of that is the culture and climate of our classrooms and our schools. So how a student feels in their classroom, whether or not they feel they belong, like they’re an included part of the climate culture is one of the most influential practices,” said Krzewina.
Teacher and conference participant, Jill Vermeulen is getting a lot from the exchange of ideas.
“So, these next two days are full of so much learning really rooted in research on teaching, teaching pedagogy, and best practices and there’s a lot of choice for us as educators about which presentations we want to see,” said Vermeulen.
The keynote speaker of the event is Dr. John Hattie whose books on education have been translated into 29 languages and have sold over 2 million copies.
