MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The League of Woman Voters held a candidate forum Thursday evening for those running for the Marquette Area Public School Board.
There are 8 candidates vying for 3 seats on the school board. All eight took the stage at the Peter White Public Library to answer questions pre-selected by the LWV. The questions came from a variety of sources including audience members and online. Chelsea Ely believes the forum covered the right amount of topics.
“I was really impressed with the questions that were asked. it doesn’t seem like the league shied away from anything. so I was very pleased. and I think that they covered a lot,” said Ely.
The candidates are:
Incumbent Kristen Cambensy
Incumbent Glenn Sarka
Ashley Mattson
Jim Rankin
Jenn Tousignant
Sarah Mills-Gervais
Cassidy Thomas
Nathan Joyal
The school board has been through some difficult times of late, the new nickname proved to be decisive, not only for residents but for the board itself. The board has also had to deal with the embezzlement of over $100,000.
Gary Calven believes the board simply needs good people.
“They need people who can listen to one another. Back in, somehow managed to work on solving some of these problems that come up with school districts,” said Calven.
Voters go to the polls on November 10th
