UPPER PENINSULA, Mich. – Aspirus Keweenaw has been fostering healthy, active lifestyles among young athletes, ensuring they receive the care they need to safely return to their sports following an injury. Aspirus Keweenaw provides Athletic Training services to Calumet Schools and Lake Linden Schools at no cost to the schools or athletes.
The program is designed to cover all aspects of athletic health and rehabilitation. “We recognize the importance of prompt and effective injury management,” said David Callaghan, DPT, Manager – Outpatient Therapies for Aspirus Health. “Students can receive immediate injury assessment and management at the time of injury and if needed, access top-tier medical coverage that’s crucial when an injury happens.”
A key component of the program is the presence of Brad Anderson, Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC). Brad will be at games, fields and the rink to ensure immediate and expert care for student athletes. Brad is a Calumet native and a graduate of Calumet Schools and brings a personal touch to these vital services. Once a part of the very teams he now supports, Anderson’s familiarity with the local sports culture and dedication to the community enhances the effectiveness of the program. Anderson will be hands on at sports events to ensure prompt response to injuries but also offer continuous support and guidance to athletes.
“We are thrilled to provide this service,” said Jeff Baril, DPT, Regional Director of Therapy Services for Aspirus. “This program builds a foundation for lifelong physical activity and equips the students with the tools they need to overcome injuries and continue pursuing their athletic passions.”
