Students walk to raise money

"So today is our Laps for Lakeview. It is our annual fundraiser here at Lakeview School, where the students come out, they raise money, and then they come out and they run laps to earn that money that the community has donated. Three laps is about a mile. So that is pretty impressive, that they're doing seven laps, and that was third grade," said Holman.

Lakeview Elementary students in Negaunee run laps around the school building.

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Lake view Elementary School in Negaunee held their biggest fundraiser of the year on Wednesday. It’s called Laps for Lakeview, where all 618 students counted how many laps around the school they could complete in 30 minutes. Lakeview Principal Heather Holman explains.

“So today is our Laps for Lakeview. It is our annual fundraiser here at Lakeview School, where the students come out, they raise money, and then they come out and they run laps to earn that money that the community has donated. Three laps is about a mile. So that is pretty impressive, that they’re doing seven laps, and that was third grade,” said Holman.

Principal Holman says all the kids are excited to raise money for their school.

“I think that the kids are really excited that they’re doing something to earn money for the school, and then when they participate in the activities that they’re able to do based off of the funds that we’ve raised, I think that connects to them, that they’re the ones that are doing this for their school. So it’s pretty special,” said Holman.

Fourth Grader Lane Walker understands how important this fundraiser is.

“Everybody gave money for donations, and like, we raised like $2,000,” said Walker.

Madison Pascoe knows that all this walking will eventually pay off.

“It makes me happy that we get to run around with our friends together, and we have to raise money for everything to help give us fun things,” said Pascoe.

Principal Holman is grateful for all the donations and the unending support of the community.
