MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Northern Michigan University Devos Art Museum is currently displaying the “Across Time and Place” collection by Liz Ward and Robert Ziebell. This collection touches on the history of mining in the U.P. and the beauty of the Keweenaw Peninsula plus labor during the pandemic.
The exhibit director knew of these artists for multiple years, when this collection was first released the director knew the relation to the U.P. made it perfect for this exhibit.
Rob showcases the history of mining by capturing old houses and their current condition plus how people have made them their own throughout the years. He also got close and personal with the Keweenaw environment like his photos of the uprooted tree or close-up mushroom.
Liv shows labor conditions during the pandemic like the dangerous conditions and lives lost by showcasing gravestones and incorporating nature like the willow tree.
“I think they both go about sort of sourcing their subject matter in different ways, they’re asking different questions about the world and you can really see that,” said Emily Lanctot, exhibit director and curator.
The artists Liv Ward and Rob Ziebell will be hosting a meet and greet at NMU Devos Art Museum, they will be talking about the collection and chatting with guests. This event is free to the public on September 26th at 5 p.m. for more information on the meet and greet event go to the Devos Art Museum website.
