LAURIUM, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Michigan man was arrested with participating in the January 6 Capitol riot in 2021.
Adam Christopher Mancuso was arrested on four counts in a criminal complaint filed in Washington’s U.S. District Court on Aug. 23. He was arrested for the following:
18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(1) – Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds
Without Lawful Authority,
18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(2) -Knowingly, and with intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of
Government business or official functions,,
40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2)(D) -Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building or Grounds,,
40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2)(G)-Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building,.
An FBI spokesperson confirms to WZMQ 19 News that the FBI was involved in “authorized law enforcement activity” on Wednesday in Laurium in Houghton County. He declined to provide any specific information including whether an arrest was made or if items were taken in a search.
But the federal court complaint accuses Mancuso of illegally entering or remaining in a restricted area without authority, knowingly impeding or disrupting government business, disorderly conduct and demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building.
The criminal complaint included photos and images taken from video that it says shows Mancuso inside and outside the U.S. Capitol building. After conducting surveillance at Mancuso’s Michigan address, the complaint says FBI determined Mancuso was the man captured on video at the Capitol and carrying a sign that said “America First, Never Give Up, Never Surrender” with a picture of the American flag. He is also accused of wearing a gas mask while in the Capitol.
The charging documents say the FBI acted on a tip that Mancuso posted images of himself inside and outside the Capitol on January 6. He was wearing a hat with a logo of a band, which helped agents identify the suspect.
Hundreds of people have been convicted in prosecutions of those participating in the January 6 attack. The U.S. Justice Department said that 140 police officers were assaulted at the Capitol and damage totaled nearly $3 million.
