MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – If you are an NMU Wildcats fan and like beer then Black Rocks Brewery in Marquette is the place to be.
NMU’s school colors are green and gold, so it makes perfect sense to name a beer after one of them. This is Wildcat Gold, the result of a partnership between Black Rocks Brewery and NMU, who teamed up to celebrate Northern’s quasquicentenniall which is the other name for a 125 year anniversary.
For now, Wildcat Gold is only available at Black Rocks Brewery, NMU’s bookstore and select NMU athletic events. Dave Nyberg, Executive Director of Business Engagement and Economic Development says Wildcat Gold has a serious side as well.
“One thing that’s also really great about this is that a portion of the proceeds of revenue come back to support student recreation access at Northern in the form of equipment, mountain bikes, Nordic ski gear for students to access the Noquemanon on trail network,” Said Nyberg.
The launch of this new beer was really a party. NMU President Brock Tessman greeted the crowd, Northern’s pep band added school spirit, and of course, Wildcat Willie was posing for photos. Black Rocks Brewery co-owner Andy Langlois said the entire process was fun for everyone.
“Really, I think it’s just something fun, and with Northern’s 125th anniversary, why not celebrate with their own beer?” said Langlois
So how is the beer? Patrons I spoke to were unanimous in their love for this lager.
