MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Marquette has been arrested on multiple charges following a home invasion.
At approximately 5:19 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, officers from the Marquette Police Department were dispatched to the 2000 block of VanEvera Avenue for a reported assault involving a handgun.
As a result of the investigation, authorities arrested a suspect for Home Invasion 1st Degree, Weapons-Carrying with Unlawful Intent, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of Weapons-Felony Firearm and Controlled Substance — Possession of Cocaine.
The suspect was identified as 24-year-old River-Jordan Thomas Shumate of Marquette. Investigators learned that the weapon was not fired; it was used as an object to strike the victim multiple times.
The victim was transported to UPHS-Marquette by EMS for treatment of multiple lacerations to his head and face. Shumate was lodged at the Marquette County Jail.
Michigan State Police, the NMU Police Department, the Marquette Fire Department, and UPHS-EMS assisted with the incident.
