MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Upper Peninsula Tour Da Yoop bike race stopped in Marquette this Wednesday. The riders started this morning in Houghton and biked to Marquette where a post-ride party with food and a bike wash station was waiting for them.
Tour Da Yoop is a 10-day tour around the U.P. starting on July 28th in Manistique and ending there on August 4th however riders do not have to do all 10 days, they can pick which days they would like to participate. This race was put on by James Studiger and the U.P. Lions Club to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer in the Upper Peninsula.
“Many of our families even though this is a great place to live the health care here is not maybe what could satisfy kids who are battling life-threatening diseases,” said Christine Smith, U.P. Lions Club Childhood Cancer Chairman.
This tour helps fund grants offered to families that may need the money for medical bills, travel fees, housing, or anything the family may need when it comes to medical issues. Organizers share that over 90 families in the Upper Peninsula have been diagnosed with some form of cancer and none have been treated in the Upper Peninsula.
