MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, Marquette’s Beautification and Restoration Committee held its 30th Marquette Garden Tour around the Marquette and Harvey area.
This Garden Tour is the non-profit organization’s biggest fundraiser for the year. Each year, participants can suggest gardens in the area for the following year, making each tour different. The selection process is all community-based, participants suggest gardens, and then the selection committee reaches out to the garden owner to discuss logistics with parking, location, space of the area, etc.
Tickets cost $10 for open access to all the gardens plus refreshments and snacks along the way. “There are parts of the city that I didn’t even know where they were or what was happening, and you’re invited into these spaces and you just say ‘wow’. It really expands my knowledge of where the city is and stuff,” said Jill LaMere, Marquette’s Beautification and Restoration Committee president.
The Garden tour is open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and tickets are still being sold at the garden locations. Marquette’s Beautification and Restoration Committee’s next event is a community discussion and lunch on August 8 at the Holiday Inn.
