MILWAUKEE, WI- It’s night three of the Republican National Convention. WZMQ 19 News exclusively caught up with a couple of delegates from the U.P. at the convention.
They are so excited to be here and represent the Upper Peninsula. They told WZMQ 19 NEws they’re so far up north nobody takes them seriously but coming here and helping to officially nominate former President Donald Trump as the Republican nominee has been quite the experience.
We saw them on the RNC floor with their fellow Michigan delegates. They were waving signs on the floor. It looked like they were having a good time. Wanda Kiiskila, who is one of the delegates we spoke with, was an alternate delegate but after some people didn’t show up the first day, she was able to go down on the floor and be a delegate. She said she was hoping she could make it to the RNC floor and her dreams came true on the first night.
“I just started crying its like a dream come true,” said Kiiskila. “They took me down to the section and they led me through and I got to go to the Michigan delegation section and it was really cool because its right next to the Ohio delegation and we got to see them bring in the JD Vance nominee.”
Dan Hoclomb, another Michigan delegate, said it’s important to be active within the community and with the party.
“I’m here fighting for my child,” said Hoclomb. “I have a seven-year-old autistic child and I worry about his future because the way things are going right now. As a father I want to do everything I can to fight for him that he has the right to live his American dream.”
Thursday night is the big night. Former President Trump is expected to take the stage.
