GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – While it certainly wasn’t the best conditions, that didn’t stop some golfers from raising money for a good cause on Friday.
The funds were raised during the Yoopers United Charity Golf Scramble at the Red Fox Run Golf Course. However, it wasn’t a normal outing. The theme was “Happy Gilmore” with holes sporting different challenges like taking your swing like Adam Sandler does in the film. For another hole, the challenge was to use a hockey stick to putt.
All of the proceeds go directly to the United Way of Marquette County. “People can pay to have mulligans. One group bought 13 mulligans,” said Jeff Clark, an organizer and a goalie for the Yoopers United Hockey Team. “You can pay to move up on a hole. We have a par five you can move up quite a ways.” Also included in the fundraiser were 50/50s and raffles.
According to organizers, the golf outing alone will raise about $2,000, and they have more events in the coming weeks.
