MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Painting with Words, a Marquette Art Week event held in Marquette Commons Thursday, held by two Marquette residents. This event allowed participants to try new forms of making art with a letterpress, making prints, and creating poetry on a typewriter.
This is the first year organizers have been a part of Art Week, making sure their event was hands-on with basic, authentic tools was important, organizers shared. Organizers want to show different ways to create art with words, as well as keeping the process as close to original as possible.
“You got people out quilting, people are painting, there’s a gallery up the street, lots of things going on in Marquette trying to make art visible and I like to make poetry visible, Phil likes to be visible with what he’s doing, it’s like bringing it out so people can see it,” Josh Brindle and Phil Britton, Marquette Artists.
Brindle writes poems for the public at Marquette Farmers Markets, on Wednesday night. For more information go to Brindle and Britton’s home pages. Also for more Art Week information go to the Marquette Compass web page.
