UPPER PENINSULA, Mich, (WZMQ) – It’s been a rainy week so far and it doesn’t look like stopping.
With the amount of rain there are some safety concerns for those traveling.
The National Weather Service encourages those driving later this week to be aware of road washout and heavy ponding on and alongside the road.
Homeowners should also be prepared for possible leakage into basements.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Matt Zika said heavy rainfall can not only be dangerous for drivers, but also damage the road.
“We have to be cognizant and be careful when people are out driving,” said Zika. “Don’t be driving where there is water flowing over the road. A couple of those wash-outs that occurred in Ontonagon County overnight, the road, the culverts, are completely gone.”
The majority of the rainfall for the UP is expected from Thursday through Sunday.
