Friday Pop-Up Market returns to Escanaba Marketplace for the summer

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Downtown Escanaba is giving local creators an opportunity to share their work this summer.

On Friday, Vendors set up shop for the first Pop-Up Market of the year at the Escanaba Marketplace. Now in its second year, the Pop-Up Market runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Friday.

Patrons will find a variety of art, crafts, jewelry and accessories, decor, and other handmade goods. Vendors like Skip Blanc say the Pop-Up Market is a good place for newcomers to start selling their products. A returning vendor himself, he says it’s also a chance for experienced artisans to reach new customers.

“I do lots of different craftwork, mostly for Indian people,” Blanc said. “I do woodcarvings, I make hand drums, I do beadwork. I think it’s a good exposure for the crafters; it’s also good for the public to be able to see what other people can do.”

The Downtown Development Authority has released a full schedule of other events at the Escanaba Marketplace throughout the summer, including the Escanaba Farmers Market from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays.

On Friday, June 14, the first Second Friday Night Jam concerts will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Other Second Friday Night Jams are scheduled for July 12 and August 9.

Each Tuesday for the next eight weeks, the Bonifas Arts Center is hosting Art @ the Marketplace, which features free art projects for those ages 13 and younger. On Thursdays, the Bonifas is offering eight weeks of culinary art classes in the Marketplace commercial kitchen. Click here to register.

More than 70 people attended the first Lunch on Ludington Street of the summer on Wednesday. Each week, a different musical group will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The full schedule of acts is available on the Downtown Escanaba Facebook page.
