WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House voted to hold Attorney general Merrick Garland in Contempt of Congress.
The vote, 216 to 207, was mostly along party lines. The Republican-led House has demanded the AG to hand over the recordings of President Biden’s interview with the Special Counsel as part of their impeachment inquiry. The DOJ has handed over only the transcripts. The Special Counsel interviewed the President about his handling of classified documents. In a report, the Special Counsel declined to pursue criminal charges against Biden and said the evidence did not establish beyond a reasonable doubt he violated the law. In that same report, comments about the President’s memory were made.
“I don’t know why Merrick garland won’t provide more than just his transcript,” said Rep. Nick Langworthy (R- PA). “We need this video and this audio because context is everything. Inflection and voice is everything.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson will now certify the report to the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia.
