WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was found guilty on all three counts in his federal gun trial. The felony charges stem from the purchase of a revolver in 2018.
It’s the first time a child or immediate family member has been convicted of a crime during their father’s time in office. The historic conviction comes less than two weeks after former President Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 criminal charges in his New York hush money trial.
The first two counts against Hunter Biden were for lying about his drug use on a federal background check form for the revolver in 2018. The third count was for possessing a gun while addicted to, or using, illegal drugs.
The 12-member jury deliberated for about three hours before reaching a verdict. The 54-year-old could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of $750,000. However, as a first-time offender, he’s unlikely to see jail time anywhere close to the maximum sentence.
This is not the only legal challenge facing the President’s son. Hunter Biden will also face a separate trial this fall in California on charges of failing to pay over one-million dollars in taxes.
A sentencing date for the federal gun trial has not been set. President Biden has publicly stated he would not pardon his son if found guilty.
The President departed Washington Tuesday afternoon to spend time with family in Delaware before leaving for Italy tomorrow.
