MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – Michigan Veteran Homes (MVH) entered an agreement with a private seller to acquire over 38 acres east of Wright Street on Venture Drive for a new D.J Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
A portion of the land was donated in honor of the owners late father, U.S. Army Veteran Edward Scott, which, according to a press release from MVH, the property owners, Jim and Tonya Scott-Ross, say is the perfect way to honor is memory.
“We have always hoped to carry on Edward’s legacy and are honored to be a part of this project,” said Jim and Tonya Scott-Ross. “Edward loved the Marquette area and we know this is the perfect way to honor his memory. It provides our family immense pleasure to donate land in his remembrance and we are delighted that MVH will honor Ed’s legacy by naming the MVH D.J. Jacobetti Community Center after him. This new facility will be a wonderful addition to Marquette Township and the veterans that have served our country. We are thrilled and look forward to working with MVH throughout this exciting project.”
Before construction, MVH still has to get approval from the State of Michigan State Administrative Board and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and funding approval from the VA State Veterans Home Construction Grant Program.
The next immediate step will be environmental testing of the site.
In a press release from MVH, Executive Director and CEO of MVH Anne Zerbe said they are excited to move forward with the project.
“We are excited to take the next step forward at this beautiful location in Marquette Township – a combination purchase and generous donation – and believe this site will be a wonderful new home for our UP veterans for decades to come,” said Zerbe.
Marquette Township Manager Jon Kangas echoed the sentiment.
“Marquette Township is honored to be selected as the newest home for our veterans,” Kangas. “We look forward to working with MVH to facilitate this exciting project while welcoming the members and staff of the MVH D.J. Jacobetti to our ever-growing community!”

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Veteran Homes (MVH) has entered into an agreement with a private seller to acquire 38+ acres of land in Marquette Township. The subject property sits south of Marquette Cinemas, east of Wright Street and includes donated acres in honor of the property owner’s late father, U.S. Army Veteran Edward F. Scott.
While the signed purchase agreement represents a significant step forward to replace the aging veterans home, numerous contingencies remain including receiving approval from the State of Michigan State Administrative Board and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and funding approval from the VA State Veterans Home Construction Grant Program. One of the next steps will include environmental testing of the site, which will begin promptly.
