MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A popular social media star from the Upper Peninsula made a stop in Marquette on his book tour Tuesday night.
Old Time Hawkey, who’s real name is Fritz and has over 8.7 million followers on TikTok and 2.7 million on Instagram, signed copies of his first-ever cookbook, “Old Time Hawkey’s Recipes from the Cedar Swamp.”
Fritz, who tends to shy away from the spotlight despite his massive internet following, gained his audience by sharing his love of the outdoors. He is known for greeting his online viewers with a warm, “Well, hello, buddy!” His videos typically feature soothing music atop short clips of him and his two dogs exploring the outdoors, playing vintage video games in his camper van, and most often cooking simple homestyle recipes.
He shares over 100 recipes for indoors or over the campfire in his new cookbook. Tuesday night, more than 100 people stopped by the Ore Dock Brewing Company in Marquette to get a signed copy. They also had the opportunity to ask him questions including what inspires his recipes.
He says he was heavily influenced by his family, especially his grandparents.
Fritz is traveling the country on this book tour, and Marquette is his second to last stop. He’ll finish off in Pennsylvania and plans to take a little break for a while to get some relaxation.
