MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – After three years of hard work, seminarian Zack Mazurek was ordained a deacon today as he entered his final year of studies at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit.
The ordination mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral this afternoon was packed and included priests from all over the diocese who came to welcome their new spiritual brother.
Mazurek said he’s excited to be able to serve the church close to home.
“I’m from here,” said Mazurek. “I’m from the west end of the Upper Peninsula, Bessemer Michigan is my home town, and I’ve loved the Upper Peninsula, I love this place that we get to call home and I’ve wanted to be able to serve and live here.”
This summer, Mazurek will be serving the people of Calumet before returning to Detroit for his final year of seminary in the fall and his priesthood ordination in June of next year.
