MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – The Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee’s 36th annual Petunia Pandemonium began today.
The committee along with over 200 Bothwell seventh-graders planted flowers along the east side of Front Street.
“It’s the most visible project of the beautification committee,” said Barb Kelly, vice president of the Marquette Beautification and Restoration Committee. “With cohesion from our committee, businesses and young people.”
The flowers stretch all the way from Hampton Street to the Father Marquette Park.
Bothwell Student Alana Figler says the flowers help make the drive in and out of Marquette more enjoyable.
“Highways, they’re not the most pretty thing,” said Alana. The plants I think they just bring so much life and energy to it that I think it just helps people feel better.”
Tomorrow the committee plans to plant the other side of the street, community members are invited to come help.
Planting will begin at 10 a.m. with a picnic to follow.
