MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – Marquette-Alger RESA’s UP wellness task force held a meeting today to connect health care organizations and teachers to each other from across counties.
Some discussed strategies included expanding individualized education plans (IEDs), creating youth crisis centers, and suicide prevention training for educators.
The goal of these meetings is making sure schools and health organizations are on the same page, and can share resources.
“Our youth is, in some cases, struggling,” said Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center Director Sarah Zyburt. “So the more we can do proactively to help them and educate ourselves about their needs, the better the outcomes will be for them, and of course everyone that is a child right now is going to eventually be a grown-up we hope.”
Today’s meeting included groups from Marquette County and Escanaba, but the task force’s hope is to eventually include all 15 UP counties.
