GLADSTONE, Mich (WZMQ)- This past Saturday, was the annual Kids Kingdom parks fix-up. The kids from Gladstone and Rapid River’s Key Club work with the local Parks and Recs to keep the park alive. This tradition started in 1991 and due to the community, it has continued to be a part of the community.
This all-wood park needs to be re-sealed every year. So, right before summer these groups head out and spend the whole day covering the park in lint seed oil, funded by Parks and Recs. This event helps keep the community together and showcases how amazing this area is.
“Ya, it’s just a great place to be, to grow up, and you know giving back to your community is important, you appreciate it more and we just want it to look the best it can be” Cathy Sjoquist, Park and Recs board member.
Just like this event, the local Parks and Recs have more projects they are working on to better where. They are currently working on a Big Beatification project in their downtown area. As well as a preanal flower drive, people can donate at least one flower, even if you have a whole bed you want to donate they will come to dig it up.
The Gladstone and Rapid River Key club as well as the Parks and Recs are so grateful for the community support and are eager to work on their next projects. If you would like to get involved check out the Key Club or Parks and Recs.
