Mother’s Day orders in full bloom at Flowers by Jodi

MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Local florists are hard at work with Mother’s Day approaching on Sunday.

For Flowers by Jodi in Manistique, it’s one of the busiest times of the year. Owner Jodi Bosanic says Mother’s Day preparations actually start during the shop’s other busy season.

“All the flowers have to be ordered around Valentine’s Day for Mother’s Day,” she explained. “You’ve got to get your containers and vases. There’s a lot of planning. For the week, I come in between 3:30 – 4:00 in the morning and sometimes I’ll work until 11:00 – 12:00 at night. We get the job done!”

The shop typically receives an average of 300 – 400 orders for the holiday, sometimes more. With this Mother’s Day falling on the same weekend as Manistique’s prom, there’s even more for Bosanic and her team to do.

“We’ve done about 30 – 40 wristlets,” she said. “This year, quite a few of them are doing handheld bouquets, and those were fun to do.”

Despite the large volume of orders, each one gets the same love and attention.

“We hand-make each arrangement for the individual that it’s ordered for,” Bosanic said. “We know most of our customers and what they like and what they don’t like, or at least we try to.”

Every Mother’s Day, Flowers by Jodi can count on certain flowers to be in high demand.

“Pinks, a lot of pastels,” said Bosanic. “Some ladies don’t like flowers, so we try to carry as many plants as we can, hanging baskets. We do candy, we do gift baskets, we do candles, all different kinds of stuff.”

Bosanic and her team even deliver many of those gifts themselves.

“We’ve got quite a wide range of delivery area, so they can get whatever they need right here and we’ll deliver it right to their moms,” Bosanic said.

It takes a lot of long hours and dedication by Bosanic and her team, but she says its an honor to have a hand in creating such a special day for so many mothers.

“It’s pretty nice to be able to make pretty much most of Manistique and surrounding areas smile,” Bosanic said.

Flowers by Jodi is still accepting Mother’s Day orders by phone at (906) 341-5925. Deliveries will not be available on Sunday, but the shop will be open until around noon. Visit Flowers by Jodi at 176 River Street, on Facebook, or at flowersbyjodi.net.
