IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WZMQ) – This week in Dickinson County, Alex Wilson, a three-time U.P. wrestling champion, solidified his future by signing his National Letter of Intent to wrestle for Lakeland University of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Surrounded by coaches, family, and friends at the signing ceremony, Wilson reflected on his journey, sharing how he came to choose Lakeland out of multiple options, “Honestly, a lot of people from the U.P. are down there for wrestling, so it felt like more of like a home, and family there,” he remarked.
Wilson’s decision comes after clinching his third consecutive U.P. championship title earlier this year. Throughout his high school career, he qualified for the individual state finals three times, making it to the podium at Individual states 2 out of the 3. He’s also just earned a spot on the All-State Senior Team for Division 4 schools.
“I hope to inspire underclassmen to go to Lakeland,” Wilson shared, “And, it’s really not that big, not that far of a drive. I hope they come to Lakeland, because it would be fun to have more Iron Mountain kids be there.”
Looking ahead, Wilson plans to study business and aims to join the soccer team at Lakeland during his sophomore year. His commitment to both academics and athletics serves as a testament to his dedication and ambition.
