MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Hundreds of high school students from around the Upper Peninsula gathered on the campus of Northern Michigan University on Wednesday morning for an annual event to get them ready for life after graduation.
Career Day was held from 9am until 12pm in the Northern Center, where about 650 students from 13 different school districts were in attendance.
Mostly sophomores and juniors, the students had a chance to meet with about 75 different organizations, businesses, and educational groups to help them as they start planning for their futures.
“It’s an experience of really talking with people that know that career field well,” said NMU Assistant Director of Admissions Jon Teichman. “And they can speak from their own personal experiences, about what it’d be like to work in that particular field. And it’s really an opportunity to try on different things throughout the day and ask good questions.”
Many students were also given a tour of the campus after the Career Day event to see what NMU could offer them after graduation.
