UPPER PENINSULA, Mich, (WZMQ) – Even with the mild winter over, it’s effects are carrying over into the spring season, especially in the Great Lakes.
According to the National Weather Service said the Great Lakes are seeing water temperatures five to ten degrees warmer than usual for this time of year, and are currently in the low to mid 40s.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Matt Zika said the high temperatures could mean areas near the lakeshore may also see warmer weather this spring, but won’t necessarily affect the weather once the summer comes along.
“Those areas can anticipate above normal temperatures here for the next couple of months, said Zika. “I mean you may not notice, it’s not going to be dramatically different or mild when you walk outside, but it’s quite likely the lakeshores will average out temperatures above normal for the next couple of months.”
Zika also urged swimmers to be cautious, as the water temperature is still very cold right now and can be potentially dangerous.
