MARQUETTE, Mich, (WZMQ) – Northern Michigan University’s Board of Trustees approved new room and board rates, approved a new certificate program, and unveiled a new alma mater song this morning.
The cost of standard double room and meal plan will increase $247 to around $6200 per semester.
The board also approved the Cannabis Agriculture certificate program, which will begin this upcoming fall.
The board also announced the winner of its spring songwriting competition for the university’s 125th anniversary, ‘Northern Pride’, written by NMU professor Dr. Dwight Brady.
“Knowing that a part of me will continue on at this university in song,” said Brady, “and perhaps even my children or grandchildren and grandchildren will be looking at that program one day and say ‘my dad,’ or ‘my grandpa wrote this song,’ and they can sing along with it, it’s very special.”
The new alma mater will be debuted at homecoming in the fall, and can be listened to any time here.
