GWINN, Mich – (WZMQ) This past Saturday was the annual 17-mile walk held by U.P. Pink Power. The race started at Knotty Pine and then ended at the U.P. North Lodge, with stops along the way. The U.P. Pink Power is an organization that raises money for families affected by diseases, illnesses, and tragedies of any kind.
This event has been a long-standing tradition, starting way back in the day when a couple of Gwinn boys decided to walk this path for enjoyment. Until a local family lost a loved one, then the walk became a fundraiser. Now families and sponsors from all over come to support the heartwarming cause.
How this tradition has continued and grown is inspiring. There is even a lunch spot which was the first food stop on the walk, now there a couple snack stands before and after the lunch break. Deshma Bo, the daughter of one of the walks founders shared how this close to her heart and family holds this event.
“… it’s an honor for me to share that with the communtiy and people come in with thier smiles and they appriciated it and their so thankful” said Deshma Bo.
This event has been a tradition for multiple families for generations and will continue. For futuer information on the 17 mile walk or any other events U.P Pink Power offer go to their web page.
